Qyree looked down at his phone for what seemed like the millionth time and just like before, he couldn’t bring himself to hit the green phone button and place that much needed call. It had been almost five months since he seen or spoken to Chey, and as much as he wanted to hear her sweet voice, he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. He knew he was wrong for the way he ended things, but he felt like being out of her life would be better for her. It was something his mind thought but his heart was not in agreement. It craved her.

“Baby, you need to call her,” he heard his mother say softly behind him.

Turning his head, he was met with the tired eyes of his mother from her hospital bed. Zaria had been hooked up to all of these machines and cords for the last week, and she seemed to be going downhill at a rapid pace, which broke him down even more. It was as if once she had revealed her secret, she just stopped taking care of herself. He wondered if she was only taking care of herself long enough to decide on when she wanted to let him know and once she did, she stopped.

"It’s better if I don’t, Ma. She’s better off,” Qy sighed, tugging on his beard. As frustrated as he was, it wouldn’t be long before he had pulled every strand from his face.

“How is she better off? The man that she fell in love with who claimed he loved her decides to leave her the morning after she gave him something so precious?”

Qyree looked on in shock as to how his mother knew when he left Chey. He had waited a short time after to tell her they were no longer together and even then, it wasn’t by choice. Zaria knew that something was up when she stopped hearing Chey’s name on the regular, so she asked her son about her whereabouts. All he told her was that they had decided to cool it for a while and left it at that. So hearing that his mother knew what really happened let him know that this bit of news could have only come from one person, Cheynese.

“Trust me, Ma, I didn’t want to leave her. Especially right after something so important. I mean, that’s something that I would do to those other broads but not her. She was different,” he told her, standing up and moving closer to her side of the bed.

Zaria had lost so much weight and her skin didn’t hold the same vibrant look that he had seen his whole life. This illness was breaking her down so fast and they both knew that the doctors had no hope that she would walk out of there alive. So they made sure to keep her as comfortable as possible until that time came. Qy on the other hand had been reintroduced to a powerful God and all of his faith was in Him.
